“What’s up with the blog dude? You’re lazy or what?”

Ah, shut up… no time to write.
But okay, some quick updates:

Happy New Year!
Yeah… we’ve made it another year! And what a year this 2013 was! Gee! 2012 might have been busy with wedding and moving to Singapore, but 2013 was the year of Oskar and the arrival of the little guy was the most beautiful and life changing adventure yet. Oh. And I also learned that love and hate are really close to each other… at least at 3 in the morning.

Flight back to Singapore
Went surprisingly well.

A few thoughts: the front row seats in Economy are really not bad, space wise, even when you have the bassinet with a baby hanging in front of you. My knees still killed me on that 12 hour flight, but good seats anyhow. I also learned that Air France totally stiffed me on the flight to Europe. I had paid for Economy Comfort – I think 120 Euro or so – and got an emergency exit seat with lots of leg space. Not bad, but not comfy either. On the flight to Singapore I saw the “real” Economy Comfort, though: nice big seat, huge screen… like a poor man’s business class. I should have gotten that and am a bit annoyed I have to say.
What else? Well, I watched Runner Runner (not very surprising be-smart-get-rich-get-duped movie with Justin Timberlake), Prisoners (intense, but a bit lengthy drama with Hugh Jackman) and the pilot to The Newsroom (love the characters… looks like Aaron Sorkin did it again). I also started watching Rush, but must have fallen asleep, so cannot say anything about it except that I liked the first 5 minutes.

Our arrival at home
I’d call it “moldy”. Shoot! We had the air conditioning running in every room for an hour per day, but this was obviously not good enough. I now think that I should have let all balcony doors a crack open instead (which also would have meant that the house is theoretically accessible if someone has a big ladder).

First night in Singapore
Fuck! Really… life’s not good when a baby suffers jet lag.

Our helper
On Friday Tess arrived and was accompanied by Lena and Fergie who helped her carry her bags. Gee, her room is really not that big. We quickly concluded that we’d go and buy an additional wall shelf for her at IKEA. And while we were at it, we also got a nice Billy combination to replace that metal wine rack and that old, dodgy Billy shelf we had standing there before.

I like how this looks. Much better presentation of the wine bottles.

Anyway, we also got a small table for Tess, so that she can use her room more efficiently. It’s surprisingly not that weird to have a stranger living in your house, but it’s only three days now and the first day she helped a lot with wiping off the mold, which was very welcome right away. I also like that she looks for things to do herself. So it happened that our oven got cleaned, the windows of the living room balcony and the floor, too. Sometimes she’s catching us off guard, however:

Tess: For tomorrow: when do you get up and when should I prepare breakfast?
We: Erg… huh?

Or she is realizing what a douche her master is. While we were drilling holes to mount the wall shelf in her room (fricking difficult task, by the way: that wall shelf is heavy like a rock and we had to mount it above head level), I ran into trouble:

Leo: Damn it! Why doesn’t this go through the @!#$%* wall?
Tess: I think the drilling machine is in reverse…
Leo:

Anyway…
We’ll need to get used to giving her tasks that we normally do ourselves, but so far we did not find it weird that she’s living with us. She also does well with Oskar, but this will take a while until it’s really smooth. Lamia is still home till the end of the month and I trust by then this will be fine. It is funny, however, when she carries him: it looks like he’s half her size already.

Nevertheless, based on the first days, I have a good feeling.

Brainless movies
Yann always has some inspiration for me, be it making Vodka Lemon Drop or Mojitos or making me lust for trash movies like Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters or The Man With the Iron Fists. I got to see these now…
