Greedy [updated]

Sleeping is a big topic these days in our house. After and during his first child disease, Oskar was working also diligently on his first teeth. They are visible now: tiny little white humps which break through his gums. Apparently they are also causing some bitchin’ pain.
The pain seems to be manageable during the day, because there are lots of things that can distract him. But in the evening and at night it’s a frickin’ nightmare: while we used to put him to sleep in the evenings within 15 to maybe 20 minutes, now it’s typically 30 to 45 minutes. When he wakes up at night, he quickly falls asleep on a shoulder, but will scream bloody murder the moment we carefully lower him into the cot.

If this happens three times during a night and it takes you an hour to get him back to sleep in the end, it’s rather taxing. Especially for spoiled people like us, I guess: in the past months Oskar slept normally from 7:30 pm to 7 am (with a quick snack break around 11 pm). Apart from the intentional break he rarely woke up inbetween and if he did, he normally went back to sleep in minutes.

The recent fever plus the teething might have changed his sleeping routine. We hope that with the fever gone and the teething pain maybe lessening he will slowly get back to the old regimen. If not, frankly, I am not sure how to make it through the day. Even with the previous long nights I was already falling asleep in any possible sitting or standing position before 9 pm. Naturally, after a few nights where he kept us awake with hardly any continuous sleep, I am a complete mess.

Lemme see: it’s 9:45-ish now. In 45 minutes I am going to wake him for the night feed and keep my fingers desperately crossed that he will quickly slip back to sleep afterwards.

That’d be nice…

And maybe: what about if he slept through till 7 am?
Would that be asking too much?

Update May 5:
He did not quickly slip back to sleep afterwards. Lamia had to take over. And he did not sleep through till 7 am. He woke up sometime at 3 am, but thankfully fell asleep again by himself. But at 5:30 am the night was over. Still: could  have been worse…
