You haul 115+ kilo, what do you get…?

Well, we’ve all seen it coming: today I took a trip to IKEA to replace that giant of a cabinet we threw out yesterday with three new furnitures: a 2×4 Expedit and two Malm drawer chests.

Thinking about, this is what we apparently do in Singapore: we buy furniture or have brought it from Europe, then we wait until it’s moldy and then we throw it away, followed by buying more furniture. Why not – you gotta do something on the weekend, don’t you?

And yes: IKEA on a weekend – who doesn’t love that?
I still found a way to nerd out and installed the IKEA app on my phone, created my shopping list and ticked each item off by scanning the barcode of each parcel with the phone camera. Oh yeah, baby, that’s how we roll at IKEA.

Funny, though, is that I could find everything that I was looking for – the Expedit, the Malms and a table lamp – in the take-away area. Partly pretty heavy shit: 35 kilos, twice 40 kilos and… well: a lamp. But the small mirror for Tess I had to get at the pick-up desk where they make you normally wait for the heavy shit.

Weird.

Initially I wanted to have everything delivered home. Then I thought: ah, let’s get at least the Expedit, so we can put away the books, and have the Malms delivered, which are really as heavy as a potato bag. Each. But when I saw the packages I thought: ah – screw this!

Leo: Ah – screw this!

I know I wrote this twice, but if you repeat things you better memorize them.
Now, why did I think: ah – screw this? Well, the Expedit package was the largest, proudly standing 150 cm tall, while the Malms were much smaller. And I thought: hey – if I can get this in a cab, the Malms can come, too.

Leo: Hey – if I can get this in a cab, the Malms can come, too.

You heard me.
Anyway. I got a cab and it was a difficult to squeeze the Expedit package on the backseat, but it worked. The Malms went fair and square into the trunk – no problemo.

Home we went and I paid the cab driver 10 bucks to help me carry all that stuff to our elevator. From there I had this and a little bit later I the Expedit was ready…

… and a bit later one of the Malms was assembled, too.

The other Malm will have to wait until I feel like it…
