We had hardly set a foot into the gardens when my mom was already teaching Oskar the classic line from Hansel and Gretel:
Witch: Knusper, knusper Knäuschen, wer knuspert an meinem Häuschen?
Hansel and Gretel: Der Wind, der Wind, das himmlische Kind.
So this just shows how outrageously fairytales make fun of a serious situation: two little hooligans damage the carefully crafted ginger bread home of a senior, then make fun of the old lady by blaming a made up entity and ultimately burn the poor lady in an oven, claiming later to the authorities that she had been a witch and that she had it coming. Unbelievable!
Here’s what Oskar made of my mom’s teachings:
Oskar: Knuspaknusp mein Häuschen!
So cute.
Anyway, there is of course the ginger bread house of the witch in the fairytale gardens and Oskar enjoyed pushing the button to get the little mechanism to launch said classic lines with a witch face appearing in the window.
